The Albert Hall is a listed historic building that stands as a testament to the village’s rich cultural and architectural heritage. Located in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park. Built in 1874, the hall was named after Prince Albert, the beloved consort of Queen Victoria, who had a strong connection to the area through Balmoral Castle. The building reflects the architectural style of the period, with a blend of Gothic and Victorian influences, making it a visually striking landmark.
Over the years, the Albert Hall has served as a focal point for community events and gatherings, solidifying its place in the social fabric of Ballater. It has hosted everything from concerts and theatrical performances to community meetings and exhibitions. The hall’s design includes a spacious interior, high ceilings and excellent acoustics, with a stage, seating and a beautiful circular stained glass window making it an attractive space for weddings, celebrations and community events. The adjoining kitchen and toilet facilities have been refurbished as well as the entrance hall, and this, along with the Mike Sheridan Room, provides an excellent Function Suite.making it ideal for various types of events.
It is a popular venue for local festivals, charity events and private functions, attracting visitors who appreciate its historic significance and welcoming atmosphere. Excercise and dance classes take place every week. Meetings, lectures or conferences take place regularly using the facilties such as projection screens and PA system.
Situated on the first floor of the Halls complex with the main door to the left of the new Ballater Community and Heritage Hub. With a small stage and floored area, the Albert Hall has a capacity for 110 persons seated, 90 with small tables and some space for dancing and 100 with tables set for dinner. Access is via the elevator or stairs.
